Tammy Tested. Caregiver Approved!
A multitude of variations exist when it comes to bedpad designs, but our favorite is the Slipper Foot. The design, sometimes referred to as a Fracture style, is sold by a number of distributors, so we don’t have one particular manufacturer to recommend. What we like about it is the tapered effect that allows the bedpan to slide between the legs and under the patient’s bottom with minimal arching of the back.
This is the product, by the way, that inspired the idea for the HomeBoundResources Seal of Approval for Empathic Design. You can read more about this idea on the website.
Developing product for persons with disabilities is still fertile ground—hence our goal to raise awareness of the end-user among designers and manufacturers. Simply put, if you (the manufacturer) haven’t tested your product with the people who will be challenged to use it, then please don’t inflict your design on us!
The Slipper bedpan varies in price, so shop around. Search the internet for “Slipper” or “Fracture” bedpan. We’ve seen them as low as $10. They come in a variety of materials (e.g., plastic is warmer to the touch than metal) and now designer colors and prints!
